Have you ever wondered why those protein/nutrition bars that are SO great for you can’t really EVER manage to taste good? I get a little sick of them actually, so was on the hunt for a protein bar that breaks the mold. I ended up finding a local internist-turned nutritionist named Dr. Melina Jampolis who recently launched her own line of nutrition bars in order to provide people with a healthy snack that TASTES GOOD. Check out the episode!
You can find Dr. Melina’s Bars at all Northern California Whole Foods locations, as well as many other smaller retailers in the area. For more information on the nutritional content of each bar, go here. To get Dr. Melina Bars delivered to your home, order them on Amazon.com!
Thanks, Dr. Melina, for giving me some great direction in my quest to combine healthy with good flavor!
Yeah, it’s time to get a little live action tasting going on, and we’re putting it on this Thursday, May 21, at the 18 Reasons space at 18th and Guerrero. Bi-Rite grocery store is providing the snacks, so we ain’t half-stepping, folks!
It all starts at 7pm and the place is modest in size, so get there early. You can see more about the event here and become a fan of The Snack Attack on Facebook here.
Lots of hype around this cookie place – when it opened a few weeks ago, the line to get in the door was around the block! I actually went on opening day, but didn’t have the time to stand in line (I’m a VERY busy guy, you see…) so made an appointment with Anthony’s PR guy, Ahsha, and came back. I was there on Thursday of last week and got to go behind the counter and taste three of his cookies and interview the cookie man himself. Check it out:
Great time, great place, great cookies – you have to check it out the next time you are in the Mission in SF! Tell him that the Snack Attack guy sent you…
Special thanks to Ahsha for setting up the tasting for us, and to Anthony for being a fantastic host and a great interview.

Last weekend I sat down on a blanket in the park and tasted some chocolate. There was a dog or two involved and at least one Jell-O shot. Check it out…
Located on Harrison at 24th Street in SF, Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream opened about three months ago and has been wowing locals with some amazing flavors of real, solid, no fakey fake ice cream. I popped on over there to taste a few flavors: Secret Breakfast, Strawberry Jalapeno and Boccolone Prosciutto. This place is a must if you are an ice cream fan… heck it’s a must period – Crazy stuff – check it out!
This go around I swung down to the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. The goal was to hit up a pâtisserie called Miette, to try some of their Macarons (which is the correct spelling, despite my giving the sales associate a hard time – these are not to be confused with macaroons…). I tried the hazelnut macaron, the pistachio macaron and some sort of rose-flavored macaron. Pretty tasty stuff! Check it out!
SXSW brought me to Austin, but it was the trailer park food that caught my attention. The South Austin Trailer Park and Eatery is a lot with three trailers on it – one serving tacos, one serving burgers and one serving desserts. I went for the slider sampler and the green chile cheese fries. Trashy! and goooooood….
Making a comeback from the dead, this very highbrow episode of snack tasting brings you chocolate-covered edamame, some crazy product called Cocoa Loco and chocolate-covered mulberries. Mmmm, that’s amazing. The special cameo by the Tea Tester 2000 is absolutely RIVETING. Sit back and relax – it’s time for a SNACK ATTACK…
